Brett Deutsch

Owner

My name is Brett Deutsch, and I'm the owner of Deutsch Photography (www.headshotsnyc.com and www.deutschphoto.com). I trained at Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and later in New York City at the New York Institute of Photography and the School of Visual Arts. But mostly I've studied how to take a great photograph by taking hundreds of thousands of pictures at home in Manhattan and all over the world.

No matter who or what I'm photographing headshots, portraits, landscapes, animals or events I try to catch images that are truthful and powerful. I consider myself a documentarian, someone who can tell a story with a single photograph.

In addition to my work around NYC, I've tramped with my cameras through 26 countries and all 7 continents, involving Antarctica. My travel photography and portraits have been published in the United States (including the Dallas Morning News, the Kansas City Star and the Hartford News), and internationally (Time Out London, The Ottawa Citizen, The Regina Leader-Post and The Victoria Times Colonist).

When not shooting photos, I like hanging out or going on (mis)adventures with my wife Sherri, our dog Samson and our friends.

Customer Testimonials

I'm a long-time amateur, and I can tell from the Facebook page alone that this photographer is an artist. Deutsch will go on my resource page for anything I need customized.

Brett is fantastic. He's done two shoots for us, one in his studio and one at a kid's birthday party. The quality of his work is excellent and he is very easy to work with. Looking forward to using him again.

My team and I needed headshots and a team photo for our website. Brett came to our office to shoot onsite. He was flexible with our schedules and we were able to book the shoot for the following week. Brett is friendly and warm and made the whole experience relaxing and easy. The photos came out phenomenal and we had plenty of different options to choose from. I highly recommend Brett!

Working with Brett was such a positive and laid back experience. He knew exactly how to set up the shots he took in our space to get the best photos. And he made me look like a rock star. Can't beat that. Brett is the man.

Brett did a phenomenal job with my Headshot photoshoot. He had me feeling calm and relaxed, and was patient with my eccentricities. The photos turned out great!

Brett was highly professional and efficient while making the experience totally enjoyable. I'd highly recommend Brett and his team for any occasion.

Excellent!!! Excellent!!! Excellent!!! This gentleman was professional, friendly, and experienced. This was my first time doing a photo shoot and I had no idea what to expect. He made me feel so at ease, next thing you knew, it was over. Thank you Brett!!! You're the best in the business!!!

Fantastic! Brett shot my son's bar mitzvah, and more recently also took head shots for my website. What stood out most both times is how good Brett is at putting people at ease and getting shots of natural, relaxed expressions that convey something about who we are. I couldn't recommend Brett more highly, and will continue to use him for all of our photography needs.

Headshot client and award-winning modern dancer Sara Juli recently went viral when she performed this startling dance during the Portland City Council meeting. This got me looking back at some of her past performances $5000, anyone?

This law student scored a great internship with a leading non-profit for which she needed headshots. Though its the middle of winter, the weather was gorgeous, so we headed outside for the shoot and caught some really lovely afternoon light.

Had a great time working with Erica Jaffe of Three Keys Brooklyn on her calligraphy seminar. If you're looking for beautiful calligraphy for your special event, look no further. And you can't beat the space where she held the seminar: Rachel Cho Floral

I ran into one of my earliest bat mitzvah clients and her family last night at an event I was shooting. She's now a senior in college (and would have graduated already if she hasn't taken a gap year). Great to see them, but I'm feeling old! #beforeandafter
